In early June twenty two club members, along with partners and some visitors from other camera clubs, spent a delightful week at Sennen Cove. Not only did we have a sea view from our accommodation, but we could easily walk to the beach for a paddle or swim. Although the planned night shoot of the Milky Way above St Michael’s Mount was curtailed by cloudy skies, members found plenty of beautiful places to photograph. The disused tin mines at Botallack proved to be a favourite along with Godrevy lighthouse, St Ives, Porth Nanven and, of course, Land’s End itself. Highlights included a trip to the famous Minack Theatre to see a dazzling production of “A Swell Party”, a celebration of the life and work of Cole Porter, and an invitation to photograph the launching of the St Ives lifeboat followed by a fish and chip supper. A new venture for the club was a singalong evening during which several members displayed hitherto unknown ability as singers! Click here for the singalong video
An engaging and highly successful part of the trip was a theme-based photography competition. Only images taken on mobile phones were permitted, and participants each nominated one topic. They then went on to judge this and award a prize on our final evening together. Although the weather could have treated us more kindly, this trip was a resounding success both socially and in terms of providing a range of photographic challenges. John Bishop

Frome Festival If you have signed up to be a photographer for the Frome Festival you should have received an email from David with a link to the closed Facebook page. It is important that you access this page so that David can organise who will be attending which event. There is still time to sign up for some of the trips planned for this summer:- Rosemoor Trip – there are still some seats left for this trip, but please let me know before the 12 th July if you are interested. Speedway This is planned for 7 th August, the price is £18 per person, food included. Warner Bros. Studio tour – The making of Harry Potter. This would be on the 21 st August at 4pm. The price is £45 per person and only hand held cameras are allowed. Zoo trip This is proposed but no date set yet, the price for Bristol Zoo is £15. If anyone is interested in these trips please contact Michelle de Mora Bristol Harbour Evening Trip – Sunday 11 th Aug. The plan is to take reflections and night shots in the harbour and surrounding area. Leaving Frome 18:00, car shares to be arranged. Rendezvous in the Grain Barge, Hotwell Road , Bristol, BS8 4RU. There is parking there although it is pay and display. The Grain Barge can be the base for the evening as it also does food. From that area you can take photos of SS Great Britain and it’s a 10 min walk to take pictures of Clifton suspension bridge. Members can also get help taking night time pictures. Penny Piddock, DPAGB, AFIAP, will judge our triptych print competition. This is the final competition of the season, so watch the website afterwards for the P and C league results! Best of the Best, Print and Digital Next week’s meeting (the Tri-battle with Norton Radstock and Frome Selwood) is the hand-in date for eligible entries for the new David Chedgy Best of the Best Digital Cup. Prints eligible for the Patrick Emery Best of the Best Print Cup will the judged cold on the night of the competition (17th May). The judge will be Leo Rich, DPAGB, APAGB, EFIAP/g, ARPS. Photographs which were placed in the top 4 in this year’s internal competitions are eligible. You may enter those from the 4 dpi competitions for the David Chedgy Cup, those from the 4 print competitions for the Patrick Emery Cup (i.e. no crossover from digital to print or vice versa). Premier and Club Classes compete together, so potentially we can have 36 entries for each Cup. Take your chance! Next Year’s Committee The nomination sheet will be up at the meeting this week, and for following weeks until 10th May. Please give this some thought: the Club at present is thriving, but continued success depends on a strong committee. Check the website for officer “job descriptions”, and ask yourself whether you might enjoy joining the team. Lacock Positive Camera Club Annual Exhibition This will be held over the May Bank Holiday, Sunday 5th and Monday 6th May. At Lacock Village Hall, 10 am – 5 pm. Free entry, and refreshments will be available. As well as nearly 100 prints, the Club will be show-casing photographs which have achieved National and Regional awards. Images from Phil Selby and Sue Power will be on show, as will those of Philip Male, including his September entry in the 2019 BBC Countryfile Calendar. See you on Friday. This Week's Meeting

Now's the day, and now's the hour The hand-in date for our final internal competition is next week, 12th April, when we shall enjoy the Bristol Salon show. The subject, a Story Triptych, will be judged on 26th April by Penny Piddock from Dorchester.
